The China Financial Sector Training Scheme supports
economic reform in China by increasing the capacity of Chinese financial
organisations to develop the expertise necessary for a market economy.
The programme is funded by the
Department for International Development and managed by the
British Council.
The programme consists of the following activities:

Briefing meetings – for
Chinese organisations, to provide information about how to participate.

Sector Planning Programmes
– study tours to the UK for senior managers from participating Chinese
organisations to provide an overview of the industry in the UK:
the regulatory and supervisory framework,
the commercial environment, including visits to leading companies,
the professional bodies and trade associations that support the
industry in the UK.

Selection of candidates
– 225 young professionals will be selected from the Chinese financial
sector to undertake work attachments with companies in the UK. Candidates
undergo a rigorous selection process, competing within their organisation
to be nominated to the British Council. Candidates are then further
screened for language ability and through interviews.

Placing participants – the
British Council works with Digby
Morgan . Digby Morgan is a specialist executive search,
selection and human resources consultancy.

China based training – in
order to prepare participants to perform effectively in the UK,
they undertake induction in China at Shanghai University of Finance
and Economics (SUFE). This
focuses on ensuring that participants have a sound understanding
of international finance and economics, and begins to focus on the
language needs of participants working in the UK.

UK based training
is undertaken at the Canterbury
Business School and provides both an introduction to British
life as well as economic and monetary briefing on the UK economy.
English language training is provided by Pilgrims.
